Other cultures are not truly “other”: each culture belongs to us. We create culture from within, just like language. Languages are not foreign elements learned from the outside; they are configurations of ourselves, of the grammar that constitutes our inner world. The other languages, the other cultures, are our languages and our cultures: we just need to discover them. Thus, each language and culture we are unfamiliar with is our heritage that we have forgotten.

At the Igorota Foundation, we work to make cultural exchange the foundation for mutual enrichment. In this way, we promote action against racism and xenophobia by giving a voice to ethnic minorities and serving as a bridge between their cultural traditions and the mainstream culture in which these minorities are integrated. We thus foster the global awareness of a cosmopolitan citizenship and work against cultural, racial, linguistic, and religious prejudices.

Our operation is twofold. On the one hand, we work in the countries of origin of migrant cultures to protect the survival of their traditions. On the other hand, we carry out activities in the receiving countries of migration so that the cultural richness of migrant individuals can be embraced and enjoyed by all.

Las otras culturas no son otras: cada cultura nos pertenece. La cultura la hacemos nosotros desde dentro, lo mismo que el lenguaje. Los idiomas no son elementos extraños aprendidos desde fuera, sino configuraciones de nosotros mismos, de la gramática que constituye nuestro mundo interior. Las otras lenguas, las otras culturas, son nuestras lenguas y nuestras culturas: basta con que las descubramos. Así, cada lengua y cultura que desconocemos es un patrimonio nuestro que hemos dejado en el olvido. 

En la Fundación Igorota trabajamos para que el intercambio cultural sea la base de un enriquecimiento mutuo. De este modo, promovemos una acción contra el racismo y la xenofobia dando voz a las minorías étnicas y haciendo de puente entre sus tradiciones culturales y la cultura mayoritaria en la que estas minorías se insertan. Fomentamos así la conciencia global de una ciudadanía cosmopolita y trabajamos contra los prejuicios culturales, raciales, lingüísticos y religiosos.

Nuestra operación es doble. Por un lado, trabajamos en los países de origen de las culturas migrantes para proteger la supervivencia de sus tradiciones. Por otro lado, desarrollamos actividades en los países receptores de migración para que la riqueza cultural de las personas migrantes pueda ser acogida y disfrutada por todos.
